A Faithful Paradigm

A close friend sent me a story about a researcher who was suing to get a university job position restored, after getting fired for being different. Here is that news piece.  Nothing remarkably enlightening about the story. But as is frequently the case, the informative bits are found in the post article commentary left by readers, who for the most part are more concerned with the deployment of ridicule on the researcher, than the larger question of illegal termination of the man due to discriminatory bias and personal agendas of school staff. In fact, it appears that not only

Note. click on any of the images to see them large and in full scale. In this post are a few images from the past week shooting surf. It has been a remarkable Summer in that I never get to create a lot of high bar work around Ventura and Southern California this time of year. Weather and swell rarely line up as they do during our Winters. A warm and pleasant surprise is occurring!  That is one of the great things about Surfing. You never know when the presents will arrive. It keeps your appetite whetted and hones a

Pursuit of Light: An Easter Message

It is no real news, the Easter message. Neither is it too terribly innovative a concept that we all are children of the light. From our conception, through our birth and time on the Earth through our passing here, the entire mission statement is about renewal and following: light. However to engage and embrace that which birthed us is a choice, and every Springtime as Easter rolls around, I am reminded of a choice someone who called themselves the Son of Man made over two thousand years ago. Sounds like a long time, two thousand years. But it really isn’t.

Messenger Arc

It was foretold in the beginning, that the day would come.  In those early times, Man lived in harmony with all that surrounded him. His days were long in the Earth, and he had Communion with every thing. His Creator enveloped  him in a joy and order, that brought great resonance of heart with all that was. Soul to soul to Spirit, such was the nature of order in those times. Prophecy is a strangely wonderful thing. In the expounding, there is always something of significance to be learned. It will draw the heart of man back to a

The Collaborative Effect

Years ago, Larry Moore, aka Flame, my Photo Editor at Surfing, took me aside and told me to do something. “Find people who you like to be with, who will work with you, and together, you guys concentrate on building new work. That is how great work comes” Because of that conversation, I never became a Surf Photographer per se. I became a collaborator. The image above is a piece of Art I finished today. The surfer in it is Sean Tully. Sean is a highly developed student of Surfing and in particular, the heritage of that lifestyle driven avocation.

The Island

A sloop rode astride disparate shades of blue, the ocean looking as if Gauguin had paletted every tone of that color available in the universe. The lone boat sheered through, cutting the briefest of white swaths, which were deftly consumed by azure strokes of the artist’s brush. Wind sung in the lines, with slap of bow and gurgle of wake, a pleasant serenade. There is a vitality that seems to exist at the Equator. Astride the foredeck, with one hand grasping a stainless steel stay, it’s smooth gnurling carried the feel of the wind’s energy, that traveled as a throbbing

Mother’s Day?

Mothers are one of the most under appreciated things, because society at large, seems to have no understanding that they are templated off of God Himself. Therein lies the quandry. God being neither male or female has made humanity in his image. So the female is the other part, which imparts the nature of God in this world. In ancient Hebrew there are many names which help communicate God to the tribe. The female, and particularly the concept of Mother, exists in the name Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides. I have always been deeply humbled by what a mother

Resurrection

Those that know me know of the beliefs that motivate and drive me.  It is probably no accident that I became a photographer. It is due to an innate appreciation for light. We all have it. Some of us simply choose to pursue and embrace it more than others. Having grown up in a religious household and been afforded a Parochial school education by my hard working parents, I learned early on that religion no more puts you in communion with God ( Which is also known as the light of the world) than standing in a garage makes one
