Independence Day was Born on the Fourth of July

Not vice versa.

This is why we consider the Declaration of Independence to be the blueprint for Liberty. It covers the underpinnings necessary for the pursuit of happiness.

It is the God given and legal architecture of these united States, with which what I term “The Suck” (which applies to those who endeavor to control and suppress independence) battles, in ever more brazen fashion, these recent decades.

Below is some beautiful verse written by my friend and colleague, photojournalist and soldier Jon Louis Blackburn. He is a proud Scot in heritage and tone, and a perfect example of what America really ought to be living.

Every Fourth of July
Is another year of names
Of brothers in arms
On the big Honor Roll in the sky

Every bomb in the air
Reminds me of the flairs
That tell the enemy our patrol is coming

Every blast is the vehicle
Being rocked by explosions
Men screaming “Go! Go! Go!”

And the smell is the smoke
Filling our vehicle
And making us cough on the dust

And the ensuing silence
Is the pregnant wait
For the air to return to the void

For the next blast
For the fight to kick in

Pursuit of Happiness is endemic to Independence. Best to understand how our own tolerance of others factors into that, and how this crazy, and wonderful Nation of independent zealots changed the course of human history with it’s endeavors.

Happy Independence Day in deed. That is how it comes. By doing.

IN CONGRESS, July 4, 1776.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.–Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:
For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:
For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:
For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:
For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:
For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences
For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:
For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.
He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.
He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.
He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.
He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.
He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our Brittish brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.

We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

 

The Independence Adventure

I like the Fourth of July as a holiday a lot. It always reminds me that some were brave enough to sacrifice the relative comforts of home to embark on the adventure of a lifetime and in process change the potential of their lives.

They became Independent.

It was not without risk, expense, hope, fear, sorrow, loss and oh yes, joy. I never forget the joy part.

Whenever I see our flag, it is not generally the rah rah of National Pride I experience. But the expense, joy, privilege and hope that our Independence seeking forbearers forged. Yes, that is right. Independence is forged.

Hope and Change

While both the Democratic and Republican camps spend an incomprehensible amount of money, the country suffers as a result of their awful mismanagement and extremely deep corruption.
Several years ago, I began to notice, as I returned from travel around the world, and would fly into LAX, that it was beginning to feel increasingly more like a Third World Nation, here in the US.
I am not saying that I was not grateful to be home. I always am, and thank the Customs Officers as they welcome me back. Some of them have been at their post for as long as I can recall. (I have been working as a photographer, film maker and writer since 1998. It seems like one or two of the guys have been there, each time that I return)
It had proceeded to become increasingly obvious to me, that what we know as being trappings of the American Dream, were going away. I could see our affluence of Spirit, ebbing.
Our system is under attack from within, via it’s leadership. Being here and witnessing the demise-change is interesting. In a Nation known for it’s affluence, great poverty of spirit is being exhibited, and a level of selfishness that I seldom see in my travels, has come to roost here. Like a vulture, it picks at the still bloody, bones of the remnants of freedom.

All I can really do, is endeavor to be a light. As we see these men and women, many of them lost souls, take words and ideals sacred to us, and dash them to the ground, it is important to recognize that our Country does indeed have a responsibility to be that often quoted description of the “City on a Hill”.

The real task is to make sure that the light comes from each one of us, and not the Polyarchy, as they burn the structure of the Republic, to the ground.

The Fourth of July is right around the corner. Many cherish the Holiday as Independence Day. Increasingly rare commodity, independence. I hope the country takes a good look around, in this time.  Remember that someone died for your independence, your freedom. I hope that we all honor that, and live for it.

An Independent Nature

Americana

The United States Of America is founded on the tenets located in the US Constitution. All laws and the people who preside over the law, are based on this document. All Municipal and State laws are superceded and presided over by the Federal laws, based on this document. So no entity may pass a law that is not in accordance with this document. If you find that someone has. You not only have a right, but a civil responsibility to inform and if necessary, litigate that entity.

That is what is meant by the legal tort of Rule of Law, which dates back to Aristotle in 350 BC.

HERE. Know the Law of your land. Your liberty rests on you knowing this.

Those precepts were instituted by the biggest collection of social misfits that the world in Western Europe could produce in the late 1600′s. Wiki has a pretty good summary here. It is informative to understand the History of a thing, as there is power in that. Within it resides truth, for the most part. Though admittedly, History is written by the victors.

But a revelation of the true strength and character of the United States, lies in an examination of the nature of those individuals who had the tenacity to put their lives and their families on the line, and leave a vast history and legacy behind them in order to venture out to a new frontier in the Americas.

It all is summed up pretty well in this image loaned to me by the Dunbar’s of their son, who after severe stress in childbirth, had this to say, as he lay in Neo Natal Care, full of tubes. Kate Slaton Dunbar is descended from the people who settled the area in which I live.

When I saw this image, which her husband shot, I was surprised. To me, it seems sometimes like all of the world would love to snuff America out. This boy’s response is the basis for what our instinctive reply should be to ANY entity within or without, that attempts to rob this country of what we paid for in vision, obstinence, perseverence, bravery, and blood sacrifice.

If we truly stand united. Expect to stand alone amongst the Nations. Independent. Victory is never given. You have to earn and seize  it. That is us, from our inception. It is what we were. It is what we should be.

One of the single most powerful songs that I have heard. America. Samuel Shoemaker and the Shoemaker Brothers. It has inspired quite a bit for me in the month or so since I first heard them play it live here, in Ventura.

America the diverse, proud, obstinent, independent and free. It is our nature.

It is a choice whether to follow truth or falsehood.

I never bought into the Film “An Inconvenient Truth. “ Lets get that straight between us. I could make a long list of reasons for this as a businessman,  film maker, Journalist, ex manufacturer, Science fan, Environmentalist, and someone who participated in the formation of some of the rules written by CARB. But my principal reason, was that I choose what I will embrace based upon the character of the person communicating it, and the tone of their message.

In my work in business and retail for 20 years, I ran across all manner of Con (sort for confidence) based criminals. I learned a lot about their modus, as my company had to work alongside the Santa Barbara DA’s office in prosecuting them.

Their methods are typically based on leveraging limited credibility to a perceived promised positive outcome. But in reality, the victim is always just that, a target where by the Con man achieves his goal. Those goals can range from an illegitimate grasp of power-authority, right on down the laundry list of assets the Con man would like to have handed to him. Cars, products, cash, real estate and in Mr. Gore’s case: latitude and credibility to acquire power, influence of a movement, and ultimately: money.

So when Al Gore, a man whose business has been Politics, was put up as a poster boy for a theory that appeared to be fear based, I saw it immediately for what it was. A confidence game.

I refused to follow him. I chose Truth instead.

This post is not really about  Evil. It is about Truth. Jesus said this: I am the way, the Truth, and the Life (Light). He also said: I am the light of the world. The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

So I looked at Al Gore: lot of darkness there. Not where I ever wanted to go personally. And this IS personal. This is all about personal choice and correct path.

So you can believe what Al preaches if you want to. But you may want to have a look at the latest mess to see who you followed, if you really do not want to take the longer path of educating yourself on Physical Science, and the tenets of environmental control.

In this report the victim reveals everything about Al Gore’s character. I believe her. Not because I want to. I would rather he was not what he appears to be. But in any event, I will not put myself in that sort of darkness.

That is the real and very inconvenient truth. Al probably believes his own lies. As most Law Enforcement personnel will tell you, most good Con men do. How else would they convert people into being true believers?

More truths from a  Senate Subcommittee.

These folk’s view is ahead of ours in the timeline of eco based legislature. They come from a European POV. They made a film about it too.

So on this Fourth of July, do yourself and your country a favor. We are at war. Our men  and women in the military, live and die for the tenets of this country. But behind the lines of our own borders, we have other enemies, and their strength is based on keeping the public in the dark, about who and what they really are about.

So make the tenets you select be Truth based. This is VERY personal.  It is about choice, and yours matters. It will determine what happens to this country and it’s future generations.

I like these guys. The Shoemaker Brothers live their choices out loud. This song is based on Samuel Shoemaker’s own experiences as a US Serviceman. It is called Dancing Girl.
