In this post are a few images from the past week shooting surf. It has been a remarkable Summer in that I never get to create a lot of high bar work around Ventura and Southern California this time of year. Weather and swell rarely line up as they do during our Winters. A warm and pleasant surprise is occurring!  That is one of the great things about Surfing. You never know when the presents will arrive. It keeps your appetite whetted and hones a weather eye which is innate to all of us who live attached to the Sea.

I work in some far reaching company endeavors these days. Two massive scale projects are Blue Ocean Sciences and the Ocean Lovers Collective. What those two groups are doing, is pretty incredible, really.  I never imagined being involved in something that could change the world, ever!  But it appears that I am.

I wrote about some of that on the Oceanlovers “Beyond a Blog” education asset today, in a piece titled The Blue Forge. I recommend it for anyone who believes they need to “save” something or someone.

I have long maintained that we really cannot save anything, our goal is to contribute, and to flow, in that is happiness and the good fruit of healthy change.

You can find some my commercially available image work at Corbis images here.  Corbis has been a great asset and help to me over almost 15 years and they supply my work to a large number of clients around the world with instant download delivery, and easy licensing.

And yes, believe it or not, I am always available to discuss shooting projects in Motion or Stills, from weddings like this one, I did as a guest for fun, for my friends at Paradise Pantry as a gift, to just about any subject one can imagine. Yea, weddings SHOULD be fun things. They are all about happiness!

I love it all, and am well qualified in every way. Should I not have the time or acumen a project requires, I connect that project to one of my remarkable colleagues. We are a talented bunch. Best people in the world in more ways than one would expect, and what we do adds ease, efficiency, affordability and an exceptionally high bar of imaging and content creation. There is literally no aspect of Motion Picture or Stills creation that we are not masters of, and many of us have a long list of imaging awards from Emmy’s to Film Festival wins as well as Journalism and Commercial successes to our credit.

Seth Godin has a bit to say about “The Bar”, here in his post titled: “But it only works sometimes”.

In fact, this concept of collective development is outlined further below, in a growing Venture amongst Artists at Oceanlovers.

You can  support the work of Ocean Lovers and Blue Ocean Sciences by patronizing our online store here! We all really appreciate it, and it helps feed sustainable growth AND the Artists.  The funds go to project development. In many Orgs, only a fraction of income goes to the Artists or the causes. In this one, almost every dime fuels change that matters, and the people who drive it. The products themselves are highest bar, in terms of Art and quality.

Pursuit of Light: An Easter Message

Pursuit of light

Surfer gliding through a wave

It is no real news, the Easter message. Neither is it too terribly innovative a concept that we all are children of the light. From our conception, through our birth and time on the Earth through our passing here, the entire mission statement is about renewal and following: light.

However to engage and embrace that which birthed us is a choice, and every Springtime as Easter rolls around, I am reminded of a choice someone who called themselves the Son of Man made over two thousand years ago.

Sounds like a long time, two thousand years. But it really isn’t. Not in the geological timeframe of things here on Earth, let alone in the Astronomical scope of Space, and all that exists. That choice changed things.

Man is special in that he gets to choose his path. He goes on, somewhere, as the Earth renews. That potential is quite a gift.

Here is another present. The Pursuit of Light from Nasa.

A beautiful piece of Art and so illustrative of today’s topic.

Have a great Easter. Renew.

Aloha nui loa.

Messenger Arc

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

It was foretold in the beginning, that the day would come.  In those early times, Man lived in harmony with all that surrounded him. His days were long in the Earth, and he had Communion with every thing. His Creator enveloped  him in a joy and order, that brought great resonance of heart with all that was.

Soul to soul to Spirit, such was the nature of order in those times.

Prophecy is a strangely wonderful thing. In the expounding, there is always something of significance to be learned. It will draw the heart of man back to a place of comfort and confidence.

But there are always other choices to be made. We really get to choose, what it is that we will follow,  believe, expound and embrace as our truth.

The Messengers  were called back first.

Messenger

Messenger

It was at the end of those days and in a time, when  Men would call evil, good, and  in so doing, brought the world to a place of great peril. Hearts darkened, they drank of the cup of death, for soul and planet, and knew not the Truth nor recognized it as any source of order.

Hard to imagine, now, what that must have been like, as we walk in this beautiful, perfect, blue and green laced globe, where Love reins, and all, as in an arc, is so similar to that time of genesis.

Her name is Neosanctum now, and she is again, refuge to all that is sacred, and in great harmony. Mother of all life.  And once more, there is joy in the Coastlines and Islands.

I am just back from a week of creative work in Northern California. This piece is a tiny slice of what was created. My fiance, Donna Von Hoesslin flew up to meet me and do some work,  as did Photographer Larry Beard of Solitary Exposure, our new Art agency, where you can see and purchase works like these illustrated above.

The Solitary Exposure Collection is linked here.

The Collaborative Effect

Collaborative Effect

Collaborative Effect

Years ago, Larry Moore, aka Flame, my Photo Editor at Surfing, took me aside and told me to do something. “Find people who you like to be with, who will work with you, and together, you guys concentrate on building new work. That is how great work comes” Because of that conversation, I never became a Surf Photographer per se. I became a collaborator.

The image above is a piece of Art I finished today. The surfer in it is Sean Tully. Sean is a highly developed student of Surfing and in particular, the heritage of that lifestyle driven avocation. He is also a highly educated and pensive Student and proponent of Fine Art. When he and I get together on a project, creative magic occurs. Every time. It is far greater, what transpires as a result of our efforts, than anything which would occur if either of us pursued a work on our own. Why? Because it illustrates the energy of two souls in harmony, while in critical pursuit of the creation of an astute statement.

Brian Kasbar sent this film to me by acclaimed director Tom Shadyac. It came on the heels of a conversation with Shawn Alladio, Ed Brenegar and some others, on the subject of leadership, and in particular, Team Building.

The film is called “I AM” You can watch it here. it is 3×26 minute segments. I highly recommend it.

The film left me a bit unsettled after a critical view. It took me about 2 minutes to figure out why. Though it connects most of the dots fairly well, about how we as a part of creation and universe, could change things by better choices, it fails, (and this may be by intent on the part of the film maker) to elaborate on exactly how we ought to DO that: make the shift. Yes, it alludes to Love being the way. But it does not illustrate to the viewer how to connect to love, aside from making the choice to connect with others and in doing so, with better intentions and thought, the entire Universe will shift.

Surge

Surge

It will not. (Though yours may)

Here is why.

We are all designed as a part of the plan of the Grand Architect, to be individual lightning rods, so to speak, of the Light of the World. That light in fact, really is Sound. Some call it God. (I know I do) By it everything was created that is. Your spirit is your antenna, you connect to the sound and begin to broadcast light by a choice made via your soul.

The film leaves out that aspect. Big problem, creating an equation for change, and leaving out a principle integer, because you never come to the correct conclusion (The film examines integers)

In all teamwork, one must come under submission to a leadership. In response, what a good leader does, is create an environment that encourages the individual to grow, while under the larger umbrella of authority, and in turn do the same with others. That is also known as collaboration. In fact, that is the destiny of mankind.

The way our mortal world is architected spiritually (Think deeper than religion, think creative energy, think love) it acts as a barrier to that level of collaboration. It lies. At least on the face of things. Why? Oh, that goes back eons, to a choice an element of creation made to supercede the authority of the Creator and by choice put on a disguise that looks like love, but is only meant to deceive the rest of creation. It’s name is Adversary. It lives here. It is also called a messenger (angel) of Light

You will never get there by leaving out the key component, because you really do have an adversary.

Best to meet your collaborator today.

It begins with and in you, the entrance of light, and  to link with something regenerative, completely, immersively, creative and loving.

Yes it is your choice: destiny.

Or not.

Heritage

Heritage

Here is one of the greater messages in film I have  come across. It was made by Dana Saint and Gnarly Bay Productions.

The film is in a contest of sorts at Vimeo right now. Watch Story For Tomorrow here, and please, if it touches you, take a moment to weigh in on that.

The Island

The Island

The Island

A sloop rode astride disparate shades of blue, the ocean looking as if Gauguin had paletted every tone of that color available in the universe. The lone boat sheered through, cutting the briefest of white swaths, which were deftly consumed by azure strokes of the artist’s brush. Wind sung in the lines, with slap of bow and gurgle of wake, a pleasant serenade.

There is a vitality that seems to exist at the Equator. Astride the foredeck, with one hand grasping a stainless steel stay, it’s smooth gnurling carried the feel of the wind’s energy, that traveled as a throbbing pulse into the core of a weather colored form, which peered off through the broad expanse of blue forever. Green eyes rapt with sapphire horizon, reflected in mid morning light, calmly observing. Mind wandering, as creation’s flow traveled from sail to wire to body, and down through brown feet astride the rough texture, of a cream colored deck.

Wind and Water

Wind and Water

The singing of the rigging rose in timbre as the breeze freshened. The sails tugged more insistently: going, some place.

On a downwind run, the little boat leapt forward and the tang of salt carried on the breeze imparted a hunger for eggs with pepper, something the sailor had not tasted in awhile.

Man and boat sought an island, which lay amongst the great strand of viridescent gems, that comprise the Maldivian chain, which lie to the South East of India, astride both Laccadive and Indian oceans.

Memories convey persistent motivation, and it had taken some doing to reach this stretch of water, far removed from the busy world of commerce and hubbub, whose raucous cries, the green eyed man never seemed to miss.

Laccadivian Vision

Laccadivian Vision

In deeds past, and promises future, lay inspiration, hope, and somewhere, a particular island, where Creator touched and Creation responded, in purest form, with something unique in all the world. He knew she waited, and could feel fate in that morning wind, alongside something else, scarcely perceptible.
